We are conveniently located at 585 Buffalo Road in Blountville, Tennessee near Davis Marina on Boone Lake. Directions are provided on the Contact Us page.
What type of lessons do you teach?
We teach English, specializing in Saddle Seat riding. Saddle Seat is ridden "on the flat" meaning that no jumping is involved. It is an English style of riding (as are Hunt Seat and Dressage), but it is a uniquely American style of riding used primarily on American Saddlebred, Morgan, Arabian, and Friesian horses.
What if I only want to learn to ride Western?
We feel a good strong seat is the basis of all riding. Learning Saddle Seat can only improve your ability to master other types of riding. Some of our students do ride Shatner (Western on American Saddlebred horses) but all students learn Saddle Seat first.
Will I be riding with other people?
No. We teach private lessons. However, if your goal is to show, you will practice with one or two other students to get accustom to maneuvering around a show ring.
What equipment will I have to purchase to take lessons?
You are not required to purchase any equipment. We provide safety stirrups and ASTM approved helmets.
What do I wear?
Blue jeans and tennis shoes or any hard soled boot are fine for your first few lessons. As you progress, you may want to wear Jodphur riding pants (not breeches), paddock boots and riding gloves. Staff can assist you in ordering. Cowboy boots with a chunky heel, open toed or backless shoes and shorts are not permitted.
How do I pay for my lessons?
We accept cash, checks, Visa, Discover, and Mastercard.
What if it rains or snows?
We ride indoor and outdoor year round. In cases of severe weather, we will notify the student of cancellation. The student will not be penalized for cancellations due to severe weather. Please note: extreme temperatures, lightening, and high winds constitute severe weather.
How long will I ride?
The lesson provides 30 minutes of riding time. These 30 minutes include intense instruction in actually riding the horse not just being a passenger. Before or after the lesson (15 minutes), we also teach our riders how to properly care for the horse and tack. Please plan to spend 45 minutes for your entire lesson.
How often will I need to take lessons?
It is recommended that you take at least one lesson per week. Depending on your goals, you may take as many as three a week.
