3. To Help Students Achieve Their Own Personal Horsemanship Goals

What Makes Blue Ridge Different from Other Riding Lesson Programs?

At Blue Ridge Riding Academy, instructing children and adults to horseback ride or drive is our priority. We are 100% focused on teaching you to to ride or drive effectively. You are not just another student in a group class. Your lesson is private and customized for your goals. Your goals are our goals whether or not you want to show horses or just learn the basics.

We specialize in private Saddle Seat riding lessons. Briefly, Saddle Seat is done "on the flat" meaning that no jumping is involved.  It is an English style of riding (as are Hunt Seat and Dressage), but it is a uniquely American style of riding used primarily on American Saddlebreds, Morgans, Arabians and Friesians. However, Saddle Seat can be ridden on other breeds of horses as it teaches a balanced seat.

We teach the art of horsemanship. From the first lesson, riders are taught control, balance, and timing: to have compassionate hands, a strong seat and effective legs. Lessons generally take 45 minutes to 1 hour. The mounted lesson provides 30 minutes of riding time. These 30 minutes include intense instruction in actually riding the horse not just being a passenger.  We also teach our riders how to properly care for the horse and tack. This includes general grooming of the horse including fitting and maintenance of tack either before or after their mounted lesson. Our Tiny Tots program is for children ages five and six. The Tiny Tot lesson provides 20 minutes of riding time. We instruct Tuesday - Saturday with morning, afternoon, and early evening appointments year round. To set your private lesson schedule, you and your instructor will look at the current schedule and identify a day and time that is available for both. Once set, this is your "Standing Lesson Time" reserved for you.
